This was a day of considerable reflection and contemplation for me personally. Various endings were in mind and heart. The 40-acre parcel of land which was designated “Live Oak Monastery” land was sold after a bit over nine years of being in my stewardship. There were many threads and connections, relationships connected to that property. Initiation into the Unnamed Path had occurred there for me in 2012. Additionally, my own beloved mother passed in December 2020, and I was honoring her memory this day by strolling around the Greenwood cemetery in San Diego, CA. Here is a short video of ravens at Greenwood that day. In this evening about midnight, I held a brief fire ritual to burn some old photos of that 40 acre land mentioned above. Many endings.
Anthropologically, there are some interesting folk-beliefs about cemeteries and ravens. The tales range from Japan to Scandanavia, central Europe and beyond. Taken from a folklore website: In Sweden the call of the raven after dark was interpreted as the howl of torment of a murdered soul. Meanwhile, in Germany and Denmark, they were associated with the damned or even the devil himself. The raven shares this dubious honor with blackbirds and crows, whose appearance has also been associated with impending death. In both Japan and France, there is the association with birds as psychopomps, helping transport the spirit or soul of the dead into the afterlife.
Born on January 15th 1928, Martin Luther King, Jr. was an iconic religious and social activist leader in the United States of America. He was the most visible spokesperson for the Civil Rights and Black-American rights Movement in the 20th Century. He was lauded, and yet quite humble, a visionary. Monday the 18th is the US Federal holiday named in his memory and his honor. We are moving toward a very preliminary spiritual stepping stone along The PATH. Perennial Wisdom of Humanity recognized this PATH. That early stepping stone for us as people, is recognizing, living with, and creating that nucleus of the Universal Personhood of all Humanity. Christianity is commonly known and practiced here in the USA, and one of the two great laws / rules taught by Jesus in his ministry is here quoted from New Testament of the Bible, book of Matthew 22:39 “….Love your neighbor as yourself.” Sharing some of my photos from Kit Carson Park in southern California this day.
Here in San Diego’s Balboa Park, there is a beautiful spot called the Japanese Friendship Garden. It has gone through several upgrades and improvements over the decades. Here is a short video clip from one of my many trips there to share with you for a contemplative moment of centering and peacefulness. Please focus your mind upon your own breath as you listen and enjoy. This is the beginning of mental concentration type of meditation, called dharana, or one pointed concentration of your attention.

I just looked over some EarthDay 2018 pics and vids from the San Diego UU Church’s presentation on human caused global climate change. On that occasion two years ago one UCSD climatologist spoke and one venerable theologian spoke. The unanimous scientific observations and unanimous general predictions of professional practicing scientists in that field are real facts. A significant percent of the human population will be dead within the next 25 years if we do not change (Human lives lost by direct and indirect consequences of our human caused burning carbon, burning petrochemicals and as a direct consequence, changing the pH of the seas and making greenhouse changes to our planet’s atmosphere). The theologian advocated using the Roman Catholic Pope’s, 2015 encyclical, “Laudato Si” as a further call to action for the estimated 1.2 billion Catholics to get into action for lifestyle change to be good “stewards” of out shared planet. Thus, for the rest of us non-Catholics, humanists, Areteans, Unitarians, Protestants-Jews -Muslims, and other folks living on this planet, we can network and share a common vision and goal to change consumerism, vote with our dollars, our money, to reduce the carbon cost of products we buy, our travel, our lifestyles.

Please let it be known that as a member of the Southern Californian group called The Paracelsian Order, TPO, a teaching – healing order, that my station is that of a “Life Professed Monk” in that order. It is named after Paracelsus AKA Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, (born November 11 1493, (or by some records December 17th) in Einsiedeln, Switzerland—died September 24, 1541, Salzburg, Archbishopric of Salzburg [now in Austria]), German-Swiss physician and alchemist who established the role of chemistry in medicine. He was a physician, alchemist, and astrologer of the German Renaissance. He was a pioneer in several aspects of the “medical revolution” of the Renaissance, emphasizing the value of observation in combination with received wisdom.
Not surprisingly, the teachings of Paracelsus influenced modern medicine for centuries. But as Western medicine evolved, it became increasingly reductionist and specialized. Because of Paracelsus, Germany and Switzerland retained a distinct medical tradition that remained stubbornly alternative and holistic. Today both countries offer therapies which are unavailable elsewhere. In fact, Switzerland is the only country in the world today which enshrines access to alternative medicine in its national constitution as a basic human right.
